The secret to a fabulously juicy air fryer-cooked pork chop lies in the thickness of your chop. Basically, if you want a delicious piece of meat with a crunchy, charred exterior and tender, juicy interior, you need to buy pork chops that are 4-6cm thick. A thin bit of pork will cook through much quicker and this means that the outside won’t be exposed to the heat long enough to caramelise it. Another tip is to choose chops with the bone in, as this also helps to keep the meat moist on the inside.

Best Air Fryer Pork Chops Recipe

Now you can go ahead and pop your pork straight in your air fryer with just a splash of oil and a sprinkle of salt and pepper, if you wish.  However, we think they taste even better if you treat them to a dry spice rub first. We’ve included a couple of rub suggestions after the basic cooking instructions, but go ahead and experiment with whatever combinations appeal to you.

Best Air Fryer Pork Chops Recipe:

Makes: 2 servings. Prep: 5 mins. Cook: 12 mins.

Ingredients:

2 thick cut (4-6cm), bone-in pork chops

Salt & pepper

1 tbsp oil

Instructions:

  • Heat the air fryer to 200C for 5 minutes.
  • Rinse and completely dry the pork chops – with a clean tea towel or paper towel.
  • Lightly coat the pork with oil and season on both sides with salt and pepper. Or, mix together the ingredients for one of the rubs (see below) and massage it into the chops.
  • Place the pork chops in the air fryer and cook for 12 minutes – turning them once after 6 minutes.
  • Allow to rest in a warm place for 5-6 minutes and then serve.

Another cooking tip: If your chop has a rind of fat along its outer edge, snip through it with a knife or a pair of scissors at 1 inch (2cm) intervals. This will stop you pork from curling in on itself as it cooks.

1 tsp salt

¼ tsp garlic powder

¼ tsp ground chilli powder or cayenne pepper (optional)

A good grind of black pepper
